MBX32E – Compact Sub-THz OTA Test Solution

Affordable OTA antenna test solutions up to 330GHz

MilliBox, the leader in bench top OTA setups for mmWave and sub-THz antenna testing, has increased its frequency range capability up to 330GHz by integrating Eravant’s line of frequency extenders. For OTA testing from 18GHz to 67GHz, MilliBox supports a direct coaxial cable connection from the instrument to the DUT. However, coax solutions are no longer practical beyond 67GHz, and frequency extenders that use lower frequency IF and LO signals and provide direct waveguide interfaces are preferred.

MBX32E is a large cavity 5.5ft benchtop anechoic chamber providing 50dB of attenuation including the new GIM04H-300E 3D antenna positioner series featuring built-in mounts for sub-THz frequency extenders. In addition, MilliBox has partnered with Eravant to provide a pair of VNA extenders and accessories as a complete kit called EXTxx, where xx designates the waveguide size required. For example, EXT06 is the full extender kit for D-band with WR-06 waveguide size from 110GHz to 170GHz.

Ther complete solution offered includes the anechoic chamber, the 3D antenna positioner, the Tx and Rx extenders, the flexible wiring, the standard gain horns and of course the Python software to make the actual measurement. This setup allows for direct over-the-air characterization up to 330GHz with any advanced 20GHz, extender capable VNA on the market.
