This real-life demonstration shows how the product line from CMT and MilliBox combine seamlessly in a compact, modular, and affordable mmWave antenna test setup. The VNA is controlled from a PC where the MilliBox controller resides, giving a one screen view of all aspects of this Over-The-Air measurement setup.

DENVER CO JUNE 21, 2022 — MilliBox demonstrates the capabilities of its brand new GIM05 mmWave and THz spherical roll and polarization controller positioner in its MBX02 benchtop 4ft anechoic chamber using Anritsu’s ShockLine™ ME7868A distributed modular 2-port Vector Network Analyzer (VNA). This one-of-a-kind distributed VNA is advantageous when the two ports to be measured are distant, which is the case when doing over-the-air (OTA) antenna measurements in a chamber like MilliBox’s MBX02.

Jeanmarc Laurent, creator of MilliBox, stated, ”The distributed ShockLine ME7868A VNA is very practical for over-the-air measurements done in MilliBox setups because they are modular in size to accommodate far field distance up to 3m and traditional built 2-port VNAs are difficult to wire at those distances. RF coax of this length and at those frequencies are a big challenge, but thanks to this distributed configuration the problem is eliminated.”

pSemi/Murata showcases its customized MilliBox and latest design capabilities at IMS2022

DENVER CO JUNE 21, 2022 — pSemi, a Murata Company and leader in mmWave ICs and systems, demonstrates its new Antenna-integrated Module (AiM0 using a custom-modified MilliBox MBX02 with MilliBox GIM03 positioner.

The pSemi 5G mmWave AiM demo at IMS2022 will highlight:
• Live beamforming, beam steering, and 3D radiation-pattern measurement
• RF patchantenna alignment demonstration
• EVM performance with regard to EIRP
• Accurate calibration of the chamber air gap for EIRP measurements

MilliBox Demonstrate MBX33 – GIM04 300x mmWave test solution Live for the First Time with Extreme Waves 5G Dual-Pol./Dual-Beam Phased Array and Copper Mountain Technologies USB VNA at IMS2022

DENVER CO JUNE 21, 2022 — MilliBox showcases MBX33 with GIM04-300x at its booth 7101 for the first time at IMS2022. MBX33 is a 2 meter far field mmWave anechoic chamber with large cavity designed to test larger Devices Under Test (DUT) with the convenience and affordability of benchtop setups. GIM04-300x is a member of the modular mmWave and THz phased array antenna positioner GIM04 featuring 3 axis of position control, Azimuth, Elevation and Polarization and a DUT width capacity of 300mm.

The DUT used for this live demonstration is the 22-27 GHz 8 x 8 active phased array from Extreme Waves Inc., G-2602-8×8. With its innovative and proprietary dual-polarization dual-beam antenna design, the full DUT beamforming capabilities are controlled directly from a remote PC application, including phase and gain control for the 64 dual-polarization silicon beamformer channels and the dual up/down-converters with wide IF bandwidth.

The measurement instrument used in this demonstration is the USB VNA from Copper Mountain Technologies (CMT), Cobalt C4209 with 2 CobaltFx FET1854 frequency extender modules with capabilities between 18 GHz and 54 GHz. The VNA is controlled from a PC where the MilliBox controller resides, giving a one screen view of all aspects of this Over-The-Air measurement setup. “This demonstration is incredibly powerful at showing what a modular, affordable benchtop mmWave antenna test setup should look like in anyone’s lab” says Jeanmarc Laurent the creator of MilliBox. “Having the DUT control, the VNA control and the positioner control all under one screen shows a unprecedented level of integration and is the most elaborate real-life demonstration we have ever done, thank to the contribution of our partners at Extreme Waves and CMT”.

The demonstration consists of steering the DUT beam in any possible direction then displaying the captured 3D beam pattern in real time over the entire VNA trace in a single position sweep.

MilliBox™ Unveils GIM05, its 5th Generation mmWave and THz Antenna Positioner with Revolutionary 3 Axis Spherical Roll and Polarization Controller Solution

DENVER CO JUNE 21, 2022 — MilliBox is unveiling and demonstrating live for the first time GIM05, its new generation of mmWave and THz phased array antenna positioner. GIM05 brings a revolutionary solution for antenna over-the-air (OTA) measurement with a spherical roll design offering the widest possible unobstructed field of view. Traditional Azimuth-Elevation positioners have arm structures on the sides of the device under test (DUT) which blocks the measurement path at some high angles.

Instead GIM05 holds the DUT from the back which completely clears the sides from obstruction and stray reflections coming from the positioner body. GIM05 antenna positioner has 3 axis of rotations Theta, Phi, and relative polarization control on the probe side. All motorized axes have angular resolution below 0.1⁰. The software controller is written in Python® for maximum portability and is provided in source code for ease of integration and expendability. The software controller is compatible with all other antenna positioners from MilliBox and supports all instruments capable of SCPI automation.

GIM05 is modular in size and offers a wide range of DUT mount capabilities for DUT up to 15” (38cm) and 10lbs (5kg). GIM05 system fits in all MilliBox anechoic chambers.
